Instead of paying for expensive tourist sightseeing buses, buy a standard transit ticket and board regular Tram Line 1 or 2. They circle the entire boulevard, giving you front-row views of all the landmark buildings for the price of a single metro ride.

Why go

A grand 5.3 km circular boulevard commissioned by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1857. It is lined with Vienna's most spectacular historicist buildings, including the State Opera, Parliament, City Hall, and the Hofburg, making it the perfect introduction to Vienna.

Good to know

  • Tickets & entry: Completely free to walk. Riding the public tram requires a standard Vienna public transport ticket (€2.40 for a single trip, or included in any 24h/48h/72h city pass).
